HEADLINE ROUNDUP: Congressional Integrity Project’s Work to Hold MAGA GOP Accountable for Specious Investigations is Off and Running

Nov 18, 2022

Less than 24 hours after Republicans officially won the House of Representatives, Reps. James Comer and Jim Jordan held a press conference revealing the GOP’s real plans for the next two years. House Republicans are launching a slate of hyperpartisan, politically motivated, and downright hypocritical investigations into President Biden and his family instead of addressing the real issues that impact Americans the most.

Launched earlier this week, the Congressional Integrity Project will investigate the investigators, expose the GOP’s political motivations and the monied special interests supporting their work, and hold them accountable for ignoring the urgent priorities of all Americans in order to smear Joe Biden and do the political bidding of Trump and MAGA Republicans. We are confident that when Americans see the real motivations and the facts behind these efforts, the hearings will backfire on Congressional Republicans.

Below are some of the many reactions to the news. We even received a shoutout from Rep. Jim Jordan (hi, Jim!) at yesterday’s press conference announcing House Republicans’ politically motivated investigations.

Watch the full video here.

Morning Joe: [Clip] Adrienne Elrod: “There was a group that launched yesterday by Brad Woodhouse, a long Democratic strategist, to be the outside group that is going to defend as necessary from some of these attacks that are going to be coming from Republicans.”

Politico: Investigating the investigators: Dem strategists to launch counterpunch to House GOP. “The newly relaunched Congressional Integrity Project initiative, details of which were shared first with POLITICO, will include rapid response teams, investigative researchers, pollsters, and eventually a paid media campaign to put congressional Republicans “squarely on the defense,” founder Kyle Herrig said in an interview.” [Politico, 11/16/22

New York Times: Republicans Lay Out Biden Investigations, but Democrat-Aligned Groups Promise Counteroffensive. “Another group, the Congressional Integrity Project, announced Wednesday that it intended to launch a multimillion-dollar “war room” to undermine investigations from the House. People involved in that initiative, which was first reported by Politico, have previously worked with Mr. Brock’s team and have close connections to the White House and the Democratic Party.” [New York Times, 11/17/22]

New York Times: Why Republicans’ Wafer-Thin House Majority Is a Gift for Democrats. “Democrats have long seen this coming. The administration is hunkering down in expectation of a G.O.P. onslaught, and several outside organizations have also popped up to begin what my colleague Kenneth Vogel calls a ‘counteroffensive’ against Republican attacks. One of the groups, the revamped Congressional Integrity Project, previewed its plans to Politico — including warnings that it will investigate the Republican investigators […] ‘Literally the first thing they did after winning a narrow majority is to hold a press conference to outline their plans for political payback,” said Kyle Herrig, the leader of the Congressional Integrity Project.’” [New York Times, 11/17/22]

Raw Story: Revealed: Democrats’ new ‘war room’ will investigate Republicans for abuse of power. “‘The newly relaunched Congressional Integrity Project initiative, details of which were shared first with POLITICO, will include rapid response teams, investigative researchers, pollsters and eventually a paid media campaign to put congressional Republicans ‘squarely on the defense,’ founder Kyle Herrig said in an interview,’ reported Heidi Przybyla and Jordain Carney. ‘It’s designed to serve as the party’s ‘leading war room’ to push back on House Republican investigations, Herrig said in an interview.’ Longtime Democratic strategist Brad Woodhouse will also be involved.” [Raw Story, 11/16/22

MSNBC: How Dems plan to fight the GOP’s conspiratorial Biden probes. “Nonetheless, Democrats appear to be gearing up for an investigative throw-down. Politico reported on Wednesday that Democratic strategists are relaunching an initiative called the Congressional Integrity Project, which will involve “rapid response teams, investigative researchers, pollsters and eventually a paid media campaign” to push back against the right-wing narratives that emerge out of the Republican-led committees (assuming a Republican speaker of the House is able to coordinate this unwieldy caucus, which has a razor-thin majority). Democratic leadership is aware of the project’s relaunch, Politico reported […] Kyle Herrig, founder of the Congressional Integrity Project, told the outlet the plan is to ‘investigate the investigators, expose their political motivations and the monied special interests supporting their work, and hold them accountable for ignoring the urgent priorities of all Americans in order to smear Joe Biden and do the political bidding of Trump and MAGA Republicans.’” [MSNBC, 11/17/22]

The Guardian: Pelosi to depart as top House Democrat to make way for ‘new generation’. “Kyle Herrig, executive director of the Congressional Integrity Project watchdog, said: ‘Instead of addressing the issues that affect the American people the most, they are acting like Donald Trump and pushing their radical Maga [Make America Great Again] Republican agenda. They haven’t learned their lesson.’” [Guardian, 11/17/22]

The American Independent: House Republicans vow to use new majority to investigate right-wing conspiracy theories. “Kyle Herrig, executive director of the Congressional Integrity Project, an outside group focused on defending the Biden administration, said in a press release on Thursday that Comer and Jordan had revealed ‘House Republicans’ true intentions – politically motivated investigations into President Biden, his family, and his cabinet. Instead of addressing the issues that affect the American people the most, they are acting like Donald Trump and pushing their radical MAGA Republican agenda.’” [American Independent, 11/17/22

Cleveland.com: Ohio’s Jim Jordan pledges Joe Biden probe when Republicans take over U.S. House. “Democrats responded to the press conference by issuing a memo that described Comer as “a Trump apologist who has made clear that his phony investigations are political exercises designed to hurt President Biden. Democrats also set up an organization called the Congressional Integrity Project to counter ‘Republicans’ politically motivated oversight and investigations targeting President Biden and Democrats.’” [Cleveland.com, 11/17/22]

Washington Examiner: White House blasts GOP’s Hunter Biden investigations as ‘long-debunked conspiracy theories’. Meanwhile, groups aligned with Biden, such as the Congressional Integrity Project, have dusted off plans to push back against the Hunter Biden investigations and ratchet up the defense for the Bidens. [Washington Examiner, 11/18/22]

Politico: A guide to the (likely) next House leaders’ alumni on K Street.  “Another group, the Congressional Integrity Project, announced Wednesday that it intended to launch a multimillion-dollar “war room” to undermine investigations from the House. People involved in that initiative, which was first reported by POLITICO, have previously worked with Mr. Brock’s team and have close connections to the White House and the Democratic Party.” [Politico, 11/17/22]

Mark Levin Show: Another group, the Congressional Integrity Project announced it intended to launch a multimillion-dollar war room to undermine investigations from the Republican-led House, this needs to be looked at to folks. People involved in that initiative, which was reported by Politico, previously worked with Mr. Brock’s team has close connections to the White House and the Democratic party. So Let’s be blunt, the White House and the Democratic party have set up these front organizations, given a nonprofit label so they collect money from donors, dark money from billionaire Democrat donors they don’t have to report the donors, they don’t have to pay any form of taxation and in fact by the time they file their tax returns you’ll never know what happened until next election day.
