Disinfo Dispatch: Trump Commits “Most Brazen Act of Self-Dealing Our System Has Ever Seen,” and a Right-Wing Think Tank Cheers His War on Nonprofits

Aug 20, 2026

Washington, D.C. — Trump-appointed regulators just cleared his family’s crypto venture to establish a bank to issue its own stablecoin and pocket even more personal profit, a right-wing think tank is publicly cheerleading the administration’s defunding of charities and nonprofits, and a Justice Department whistleblower confirms the administration’s “antisemitism” task force was a fake, predetermined shakedown of Ivy League schools with no basis in fact.

World Liberty Financial Gets a Banking Charter, and the Trump Family Gets a Whole Lot Richer

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, led by Trump appointee Jonathan Gould, has cleared World Liberty Financial, the Trump family’s crypto business, for a banking charter. That lets it issue its USD1 stablecoin directly, with no middleman. Trump personally pocketed $65 million in 2025 selling shares in the venture, plus nearly $600 million more from stablecoin and other digital asset sales tied to it. Senator Elizabeth Warren says this new charter is the “most brazen act of self-dealing our system has ever seen.” But Congressional Republicans have nothing to say. Jim Jordan and James Comer spent years clutching their pearls anytime Hunter Biden sold a painting, but now that Trump and his family members are personally profiting off a federal bank charter, they’re nowhere to be found.

Right-Wing Think Tank Cheers Trump’s Defunding of Nonprofits

The American Enterprise Institute is publicly cheerleading the Trump administration’s assault on civil society, celebrating a documented 40 percent collapse in federal grants to everyday nonprofits as a welcome “reset.” That gutting has slashed funding for criminal justice groups, arts and humanities organizations, and public broadcasters like NPR and PBS, part of a broader campaign to defund and dismantle the civil society organizations and nonprofits that serve the vulnerable and keep the public informed. AEI’s commentary is the latest proof that the same right-wing infrastructure feeding Congressional Republicans’ opposition research on nonprofits is now cheering on the administration’s effort to starve the charitable sector into submission.

Whistleblower Confirms Trump’s “Antisemitism” Task Force Was Always a Fake Pretext to Shake Down Universities

A whistleblower complaint from a former Justice Department lawyer confirms what critics have said all along: the Trump administration’s “antisemitism” task force ran a shakedown operation with a predetermined outcome, not a real investigation. In the case of Brown University, the complaint says investigators found no Title VI violation at all, but leadership blocked them from closing the case and demanded a settlement anyway. Outcomes across the task force’s cases were decided in advance, without regard to the evidence, so the administration could extract settlement money and funding freezes from Harvard, Columbia, and Brown under the guise of fighting antisemitism.
