Washington D.C. – Tonight House Republicans rammed through an extreme rules package that includes a newly formed committee on the so-called “weaponization of the federal government” designed to impede lawful investigations, the gutting of the House Office of Congressional Ethics, and a reported secret three page addendum that some members haven’t even seen. In response Congressional Integrity Project executive director Kyle Herrig said the following:

“This rules package is just the formalization of the MAGA takeover of the House which plans on prioritizing launching politically motivated investigations all while shielding Donald Trump, George Santos, and others from accountability. These rules are just the tip of the iceberg of the concessions that Kevin McCarthy agreed to in order to become Speaker. Marjorie Taylor Greene and the other newly empowered MAGA Republicans plan on spending the 118th Congress furthering their extreme agendas rather than focusing on the issues that the American people actually care about.”
