Washington, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives voted on Rep. Gaetz’s motion to vacate Kevin McCarthy as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Even though the House narrowly avoided a government shutdown this past weekend, they continue to focus on the wrong priorities of impeachment and ousting the Speaker, rather than the issues that matter most to the American people.

In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“Even though the MAGA House Republican leadership will change, Donald Trump will still be calling the same old plays. He will be pushing for impeachment as payback for the two times he was impeached and as a distraction from his four criminal indictments and 91 felony charges. Supporting an evidence-free impeachment of the President couldn’t save Kevin McCarthy from the right flank of the House and continuing this bogus impeachment stunt won’t save a Republican party that cares not a whit about the priorities the American people really value.”
