Washington, D.C. – This evening voting on the House floor, the MAGA Republican House Majority failed to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after a year-long investigation that did not turn up a single shred of evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“MAGA Republicans wasted the past year on this baseless impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas claiming they were concerned about the border and immigration while at the same time refusing even to consider a bipartisan Senate perimeter security deal that could actually help solve the problem. 215 House Republicans voted in favor of a desperate political stunt in an effort to aid Donald Trump – their conference owns this stunt. It’s time Republicans get back to addressing the priorities of the American people and stop doing Donald Trump’s bidding.”
