Washington, D.C. – Today, former president Donald Trump was arraigned after being indicted by the Department of Justice on 37 criminal counts including conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice and violation of the Espionage Act. A grand jury of everyday Americans reviewed mountains of evidence and decided to hold the former president accountable for his actions – because no one is above the law, including former presidents, members of Congress, or other elected officials. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump stole reams of classified documents from the White House he knew he wasn’t entitled to, repeatedly blocked federal law enforcement’s attempts to retrieve them, and directed his staff and lawyers to hide evidence, lie, and obstruct the FBI and grand jury investigations. He is even on tape admitting to intentionally taking these classified documents and acknowledging he never declassified them. This is the man James Comer, Jim Jordan, and their fellow MAGA Republicans will go to the ends of the earth to protect and want to put back into the White House. MAGA Republicans have no credibility to conduct their own congressional investigations when they stand blind to the numerous crimes allegedly committed by their leader. They only care about increasing their own political power to push their extreme agenda, not about solving the real problems faced by everyday Americans.”
