Washington, D.C. – One year ago today, former President Donald Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury on four criminal charges for his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election he knew he lost and his actions leading up to the January 6th attack on our country and the Capitol. Trump was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to violate civil rights, and two counts of obstructing the vote certification process. Yesterday, Trump once again said he would pardon the January 6th rioters if he wins.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“Jim Jordan, James Comer, and their fellow MAGA House Republicans have spent over a year using their positions in Congress to attack law enforcement and undermine the rule of law to protect Donald Trump at all costs. Despite Trump and others facing felony convictions over the attempt to overturn the 2020 election and fomenting the January 6th attack on the Capitol, he and his MAGA Republican sycophants are laying the groundwork to try to overturn the next election if they lose at the ballot box. Our freedoms and democracy are at grave risk under Trump and his MAGA Republican cronies.”
