Congressional Integrity Project October 28 – November 1, 2024 Summary

Nov 1, 2024

This week, the Congressional Integrity Project continued to fight back against the baseless, fact-free political stunts by MAGA Republicans.

CIP sent out 6 rapid-response products, including statements, fact sheets, and roundups.

Donald Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York where he referenced a “little secret” that he has with Speaker Johnson, hinting that it appears to be a plan to use the House to try to overturn the results of the upcoming election if Trump loses again. Regardless of whether or not his insinuation is true or referencing something else, Americans can’t trust Speaker Mike Johnson to follow the law and certify the election while he is in Trump’s back pocket.

The MAGA camp is working even more aggressively to undermine free and fair election results. In 2024, Trump has transformed his campaign into a well-oiled machine working to attack our democracy at every turn.

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon was released from prison this week after serving a sentence for ignoring a Congressional subpoena as part of an investigation into the January 6th attack on our Capitol and the Big Lie conspiracy leading up to it. Hours after his release, he was back on his podcast to talk about his plans to repeat this overturn of next week’s election if Trump loses again at the ballot box.

With the 2024 presidential election less than one week away, MAGA Republicans – led by convicted felon Donald Trump – are organizing to overturn the election results, pushing harder than ever to amplify conspiracy theories about our election processes and security.

As House Republicans spend their last week trying to make the case for another two years of chaos and wasted time, they return to their districts having passed the fewest amount of bills in decades, missed nearly every deadline to fund the government, and appeased the far-right with dozens of votes to re-shuffle the Speakership.

CIP was mentioned by Rep. James Comer in the following article.

Murray Ledger: Comer touts record, Murray Ledger at L-R Dinner. “‘So we’ve just got some questions about that, and the reason that I have questions about it is I’ve had what’s called a ‘dark money’ group that many of you seen have harassed me around in the district, they have opposition research people, they’ve bought billboards. It’s called the Congressional Integrity Project, and I was wondering, ‘Who funds this? Where does all this money come from?’ Because they were spending a lot of money against two members of Congress – me and a guy by the name of Jim Jordan (of Ohio).’” [Murray Ledger, 10/28/2024]
