ROUNDUP: Congressional Integrity Project Launches New Ads in Biden 17 GOP Districts Blasting Baseless Impeachments, Killing Border Deal at Trump’s Direction

Jan 30, 2024

This week, the Congressional Integrity Project launched a new paid digital ad campaign in the seventeen Republican House districts across the country that were won by President Biden in 2020.  The ads call out the Biden 17 members for the Republican Congress’ failure to work on solving our broken and outdated immigration system at the behest of Donald Trump in order to hurt Joe Biden. The impeachment attempt of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is merely a baseless, unconstitutional political stunt that does nothing to solve the serious problems facing our border. The ads are part of a months-long, seven-figure, no-holds-barred advocacy campaign, run by the Congressional Integrity Project, targeting members of the Biden 17 and holding Republicans accountable for ignoring critical priorities and instead, focusing on bogus investigations and an impeachment inquiry to hurt President Biden and help Donald Trump return to the White House.

Washington Examiner: Biden-District Republicans Face Attacks Over Mayorkas Impeachment. “The Democratic-aligned Congressional Integrity Project launched an ad campaign on Monday specifically targeting Republican lawmakers running for reelection in districts won by President Joe Biden in 2020 over the vote to charge Mayorkas with high crimes and misdemeanors. The ads accuse the House GOP of refusing to negotiate with Democrats on border policies and instead focusing on boosting former President Donald Trump’s reelection prospects. ‘MAGA Republicans have decried the situation at the border, calling it a crisis. But now they are walking away from a deal to fix it,’ states the voice-over in the ad, which was first viewed by the Washington Examiner. ‘All because Donald Trump is afraid fixing the border will help Joe Biden. Instead of fixing the border, Republicans are pushing phony, evidence-free impeachment. Why? Because Donald Trump told them to.’” [Washington Examiner, 1/29/24]

Politico NY: Playbook AM. “IMPEACHMENT POLITICS: The Democratic-allied Congressional Integrity Project will release digital ads later today knocking battleground House Republicans over the potential impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Reps. Anthony D’Esposito, Nick LaLota, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro and Brandon Williams are among those being targeted by the digital ad campaign. The group has been running a months-long, seven-figure ad campaign criticizing Republicans who are expected to face closely contested races this November. ‘Impeachment has never been used and was never intended to be used over policy differences — but this isn’t actually about any differences in policy or trying to solve the crisis at the border,’ executive director Kyle Herrig said.” [Politico, 1/30/24]

Roll Call: As House GOP Readies Impeachment For Mayorkas, Floor Work Could Grind To Halt. “Johnson’s Friday letter came a few days before a Democratic group announced it would be running ads targeting 17 House Republicans who won districts in 2022 that Biden did in 2020. ‘Let us be clear — this bogus impeachment is as wrong as it is immoral and it will blow up in their faces. And if Republicans from swing districts and especially districts Biden won in 2020 think they can quietly support this nonsense without repercussions, they are as delusional as Donald Trump,’ the executive director of the Congressional Integrity Project, Kyle Herrig, said in a Monday statement.” [Roll Call, 1/29/24]
