Congressional Integrity Project July 29 – August 2, 2024 Summary

Aug 2, 2024

This week, the Congressional Integrity Project continued to drive the narratives against the baseless, fact-free political stunts by MAGA Republicans, aimed to harm President Biden and Vice President Harris ahead of the 2024 election, while convicted felon Trump and his allies are planning Project 2025 and other future threats to democracy.

This week, the Congressional Integrity Project released a new report titled, Coup II: Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans Are Planning to Trash Our Democracy if They Lose. Again. The report outlines the steps MAGA Republicans are taking to subvert our democracy if they lose the 2024 presidential election. They are following the same tactics as they did before, during, and after the 2020 election, repeating the lies and violent rhetoric that led to the January 6, 2021 attack to stop the lawful results.

Rep. Mike Garcia (CA-27), made racist comments while describing Vice President Harris and refused to condemn the disturbing and unhinged conspiracy theory about President Biden – that he uses a body double.

This week, the Project 2025 director Paul Dans stepped down from his role after drafting the extreme policy playbook supported by Donald Trump and JD Vance that threatened democracy and the rule of law.

One year ago, former President Donald Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury on four criminal charges for his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election he knew he lost and his actions leading up to the January 6th attack on our country and the Capitol.

An investigation by The Washington Post revealed that Egypt’s president may have sought to illegally inject $10 million into Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. An investigation was launched in 2019, but top Justice Department officials appointed by Donald Trump shut it down.

The Independent: Harris campaign calls BS after Trump team touts ‘demise’ of Project 2025. “Kyle Herrig, the executive director of the Congressional Integrity Project — one of the Democratic groups that has been highlighting Project 2025’s implications for voters — called Dans’ exit a mere fig leaf that ‘does not change a thing’ about the threat posed by the project. ‘Unfortunately for our country, Paul Dans’ resignation is not going to stop MAGA Republicans. Convicted felon Donald Trump and his lackey JD Vance support the extreme Project 2025 agenda and his resignation does not change the fact that they want to impose it on the American people. Speaker Mike Johnson and his fellow MAGA Republicans in Congress have been pushing policies outlined in Project 2025, all while doing everything in their power to try to get Donald Trump back into the White House,’ he said, adding that ‘Americans are still threatened’ by it.” [The Independent, 7/31/24]
