WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following FBI Director Kash Patel’s hearings on Capitol Hill in which he claimed he had no authority to release the Epstein files—despite federal judges saying otherwise—the Congressional Integrity Project is calling on Speaker Mike Johnson to stand up for Epstein survivors and bring the Epstein discharge petition to the House floor immediately. Johnson previously opposed the petition, but with Trump’s Department of Justice refusing to provide transparency, Congress must act as a constitutional check on executive power and deliver the accountability that survivors and the American people deserve.
In response, the Congressional Integrity Project released the following statement:
“If Trump’s Department of Justice refuses to act as anything other than a weaponized agency operating to shield Trump from accountability, Congress must fulfill its constitutional responsibility as a check on presidential power. Speaker Mike Johnson must bring the Epstein discharge petition to the House floor immediately and stop hiding behind excuses while survivors continue waiting for justice.”
“Congress has a duty to pursue the truth about Epstein’s network of abuse, including Trump’s well-documented relationship with the convicted sex trafficker. While Trump dismisses these investigations as a ‘hoax’ and attacks the media, survivors deserve real answers—not political theater designed to protect powerful figures who may have knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.”
