Comer and Jordan Won’t Investigate, But Next Year, Democrats Will
Washington, D.C. — A new Wall Street Journal investigation details how Donald Trump has personally raised more than $800 million from corporate America since returning to office, calling executives himself to demand specific dollar figures. SoftBank gave $50 million to his presidential library, Apple gave roughly $25 million to his ballroom, and Meta gave $10 million to an undisclosed Trump-aligned committee. Lockheed Martin gave $5 million toward a White House helipad weeks after winning a $35 billion Pentagon missile contract, and tobacco executives gave generously right before the FDA lifted vaping restrictions. Under the previous administration, Jim Jordan and James Comer were the boys who cried “corruption,” yet neither has said a word about Trump personally soliciting nine-figure sums from companies with billions in business before his administration.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project Senior Adviser Jeremy Funk released the following statement:
“Donald Trump is a corrupt mob boss – and if he were a Democrat, he’d be impeached or in jail. But Congressional Republicans are happy to ignore his grift if it keeps them in power. Trump has turned the presidency into his personal ATM, and Republicans won’t do a damn thing about it. Companies with pending federal contracts are writing checks straight to Trump-controlled funds, and the favors keep landing right after the money does. Jim Jordan and James Comer seemed to care a lot about what they called ‘corruption’ – until Inauguration Day last year – but they won’t lift a finger to investigate Trump shaking down corporate America from the Oval Office. Congress needs real hearings tracking down who is paying the president, how much, and what they are getting for it. Comer and Jordan won’t do it. When Democrats take the gavels back next year, they will.”
