Washington D.C. – Today it was revealed that former Vice President Mike Pence discovered classified documents at his home and turned them over to the FBI. This comes after Republicans spent months defending Trump for repeatedly obstructing investigations into classified documents he had at Mar-a-Lago and a recent Republican meltdown over President Biden immediately turning over classified documents his lawyers found to the FBI. Congressional Integrity Project Executive Director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following response:
“James Comer has twisted himself into a pretzel trying to explain why Donald Trump’s stolen classified documents don’t amount to a ‘hill of beans’ but Joe Biden’s misplaced documents amount to a DEFCON 1 national security crisis that his committee must investigate. But now with the revelation that Trump’s former Vice President, Mike Pence, was in possession of classified documents – a discovery that the Justice Department is investigating – what does Comer have to say now?
“Is Mr. Comer going to have his committee investigate the Pence classified documents discovery? Is Mr. Comer going to write letters to the National Archives and the Department of Justice demanding materials from the Pence documents investigation? Is James Comer going to do breathless interviews across right wing television demanding answers in the Pence documents case? Sir, we’re waiting for answers. But we won’t hold our breath.”
