Research Details Blackburn’s Corrupt Record of Self-Dealing While Running for Public Office
Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Integrity Project released new research exposing U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn’s long history of self-dealing to enrich her family. The information raises serious questions about Blackburn’s use of campaign funds to line the pockets of her daughter and son-in-law.
Blackburn has been a vocal champion of an unsuccessful political smear campaign against political opponents while serving on the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee. Instead of focusing on the American people she represents, such as protecting their healthcare, the economy, and curbing the coronavirus, she’s taking time out of her day to amplify conspiracy theories.
Congressional Integrity Project Executive Director, Kyle Herrig, released the following statement:
“ Marsha Blackburn has systematically used her campaign coffers to enrich her family, even in years when she did not have an opponent–paying her daughter and son-in-law’s basement-run firms more than $370,000. Instead of trying to amplify a conspiratory and baseless investigation that has consistently found no evidence of wrongdoing, Senator Blackburn needs to come forward and explain to her constituents why this type of corruption is acceptable.”
The Congressional Integrity Project’s latest research on Sen. Martha Blackburn shines light on several instances of self-dealing and corruption, including:
- Federal Election Commission records indicate and The New York Times has reported that since 2002, Senator Blackburn’s campaign has paid more than $370,000 to her daughter and son-in-law or firms registered at their home address.
- Political Concepts LLC, a company employing Blackburn’s daughter and operating out of her house had no federal campaign clients aside from Blackburn’s campaign and leadership PAC.
- Blackburn’s son-in-law, a former registered healthcare lobbyist, has used his mother-in-law’s position in public office to enrich himself by representing only Blackburn’s Tennessee campaign contributors.
