Washington, D.C. — The most corrupt president, family and administration in American history is running out of runway. When Democrats win in November, Donald Trump will face congressional oversight on a scale the country has rarely seen, led by Jim Himes at Intelligence, Robert Garcia at Oversight and Jamie Raskin at Judiciary. They are also going to get to know Jared Huffman at Natural Resources, Gregory Meeks at Foreign Affairs, Joe Morelle at House Administration, plus many others.
Ballroom donors and partners in Trump family deals are expected to be among the first targets. In a letter to a defense-industry group, Himes has already warned of the administration’s “nakedly corrupt dealings with the private sector,” flagging intelligence contractors who are bankrolling Trump’s vanity projects and signaling his committee may demand their documents and testimony.
This all comes as brand-new reporting confirms that Trump was personally behind the decision to use taxpayer money to air his cringey old campaign ads during NFL games.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project Senior Adviser Jeremy Funk released the following statement:
“For two years, Trump and his family have run the presidency like a family business, getting richer by the billions while Republicans in Congress held the door open. Gulf money for Jared, Pentagon contracts for Don Jr., crypto schemes, and now taxpayer-funded ads starring Trump himself. Every one of these rackets depended on a Republican Congress that refused to ask a single question. That era ends in January. Jim Himes, Robert Garcia and Jamie Raskin, and every other Democratic committee chair, has the receipts, and soon they’ll have the gavels and subpoena power. Trump’s cronies are already lawyering up. They should be. Accountability is coming for all of them.”
