One Republican Senator Found His Spine on Trump Jr.’s Kremlin-Funded Wedding. The Rest of the GOP Lacks Courage.

Sep 22, 2026

Washington, D.C. — Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee this week asking Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) to investigate and subpoena Donald Trump Jr. over the Russian oligarch who bankrolled his Bahamas wedding celebration. Curtis called out the obvious corruption and wrote that Republicans “nearly wore out the subpoena machine investigating Hunter Biden” and “should not unplug it now.”

Curtis is right, but he’s also standing alone in his party. James Comer and Jim Jordan spent four years on penny-ante investigations of Democrats, chasing distant relatives for any whiff of impropriety. Now a Kremlin-linked oligarch has directly financed a private-island party for the sitting president’s son, and both Comer and Jordan, along with the rest of the GOP, have gone quiet. Grassley, who ran his own Hunter Biden probe, is seemingly already shelving Curtis’s request, with a committee spokesperson downplaying the odds of an investigative hearing before year’s end.

In response, Congressional Integrity Project Senior Adviser Jeremy Funk released the following statement:

“Senator Curtis did what used to be an obvious role for members of Congress: call out and investigate official corruption regardless of who or which party commits it. For the love of God — a Russian oligarch with direct ties to the murderous Vladimir Putin rented out a private island and paid for fireworks at Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding, and the same Republicans who spent years scraping the bottom of the toilet bowl for any hint of foreign influence with the Bidens have gone completely silent. James Comer and Jim Jordan had no problem hauling witnesses in front of the cameras without a shred of evidence, but when confronted with the most glaring, obvious, and proven corruption, they can’t be bothered. Make no mistake, Republicans — other than a lone freshman Senator — can ignore this corruption all they want, but next year it will be at the very top of the investigative agenda for the House and Senate Democratic majorities. Just you wait.”
