Washington, D.C. – This week, Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro, two key players in Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election, have pleaded guilty to their roles in the attempted coup in the case in Fulton County, Georgia. Powell pleaded guilty to six counts of election interference and Chesebro pleaded guilty to at least one felony charge for his role as one of the architects of the fake electors plot.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro both pleading guilty is a huge body blow to the MAGA House Republicans who are abusing their powers to protect Trump and meddle with the Fulton County investigation. Their defense of Trump and attacks on prosecutors is crumbling before our very eyes. But you can bet that rather than do the right thing and retreat, MAGA Republicans will double down on their extreme agenda of phony investigations and partisan oversight to hurt President Biden and help return Donald Trump to the White House. But like the chaos they are sowing in the Speakerless U.S. House right now, these political stunts will continue to blow up in their face.”
