Washington, D.C. – Today, former President Donald Trump was indicted by a Georgia grand jury on criminal charges over his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election, one he knew he lost. Trump was charged with multiple felony counts including RICO, conspiracy to commit forgery and false statements, filing false documents, and more. This is now Trump’s fourth indictment. Despite this, MAGA Republicans in Congress are rushing to his defense and have launched bogus investigations into President Biden to distract from Trump’s troubles. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“Kevin McCarthy, James Comer, Jim Jordan, and MAGA House Republicans will cover up, lie, and undermine the rule of law to protect Donald Trump, as sure as the sun rises in the morning. MAGA Republicans are disregarding every priority the American people care about – the rule of law, the peaceful transfer of power, affordable health care, the cost of living, and job creation – to do Donald Trump’s bidding.”
