SHOT: James Comer is corrupt. Look into it.

CHASER: Comer All But Admitted to Orchestrating the Leak of a Journalists Private Emails to Help His Own Campaign. “The New York Times profile of Comer addressed his unsuccessful bid for governor in 2015, when he lost by a narrow margin in the GOP primary. A few weeks before that primary election, the Lexington Herald-Leader published a story based on emails showing an attorney married to a rival candidate’s running mate had been in contract with a blogger who was making allegations that Comer had abused a former girlfriend. The source of those emails used in the 2015 story had not been publicly known until the New York Times story, which said that ‘Comer confirmed, for the first time, that he had been behind the leak and strongly hinted he had gotten them from the server.’ ‘I’ve had two servers in my lifetime,’ Comer told the New York Time reporter when asked about the emails. ‘Hunter Biden’s is one, and you can — I’m not going to say who the other one was, but you can use your imagination.’” [Courier Journal, 3/24/23]

CHASER: Daily Beast: “James Comer Opposed Gambling. Then He Got Wooed by Horse Tycoons.” “In 2008, he voted against legislation that would have authorized nine new casinos in the state—a top priority of the state’s influential horse-racing industry, which still has close to a monopoly over gambling in the state.[…]But Comer’s position began to shift after he won the race for Kentucky agriculture commissioner in 2011 with a campaign supported by a $2,000 maximum contribution from the CEO of Churchill Downs, the owner of the legendary Kentucky Derby racetrack, the state’s leading gambling operator and an unrelenting political force.” [Daily Beast, 7/12/23]

CHASER: Comer’s Brother Received PPP Loan Forgiveness Thanks to a Bill Co-Sponsored by Comer. “In 2020, Comer, a critic of government spending, co-sponsored legislation that would essentially automatically forgive COVID Paycheck Protection Program loans of $150,000 or less. After the bill passed, Comer’s brother, Chad, received about $12,000 in PPP loans at the address of a farm he appears to have co-owned with the congressman, listing one employee, according to federal data. Rep. Comer was formerly on the board of the bank that secured his brother’s loan, which has been forgiven in full, plus interest, according to ProPublica data.” [Daily Beast, 1/31/23
