“I Would Do Anything to Get Rid of Joe Biden.” – Sen. Ron Johnson
Washington D.C. – On a recent taping of Dan O’Donnell’s podcast, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson openly admitted that congressional Republicans “would do anything” to baselessly smear President Biden and his administration “as you build up to the 2024 election.” In addition to Biden, Johnson casually floated impeaching Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken during the interview.
Johnson’s comments signify a desperate shift as last week, House Oversight Chair James Comer conceded during an overhyped press conference that Republicans “had yet to find evidence of a specific corrupt action” to link to President Biden, got called out by Fox News for “not actually hav[ing] any facts,” and suffered what conservative panelist Charlie Sykes described as a “beyond embarrassing” blow of losing track of his alleged cornerstone witness.
After repeated setbacks in their crusade to boost Trump, congressional Republicans have become even more brazen in their attempts to, as Johnson said on the podcast, “get rid of Biden.”
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“One would think after the low down, no good, very bad week the House Oversight Chair James Comer had, congressional Republicans would finally hang up this charade and get back to doing real work for the American people. Instead, Sen. Ron Johnson played the only card they have left after getting ruthlessly mocked by conservative outlets – admit the truth. Credibility was already a severely endangered resource as far as this years-long, fruitless crusade was concerned, but Johnson’s comments should settle any remaining doubts that all of this noise surrounding the Biden Administration was ever anything more than a political operation to boost Trump during a presidential election.”
Key podcast excerpt below.
DAN O’DONNELL: Based on what you have seen, based on the evidence that has been presented publicly and that which you and Senator Grassley and the Oversight Committee are all collecting right now, do you believe the House should impeach Biden? And if impeachment was referred to the Senate would you vote to convict?
SENATOR RON JOHNSON: Yes- First of all, yes. I would do anything to get rid of Joe Biden…He never should’ve been elected. But what I would do if I were in the House, I would impeach Mayorkas. I would impeach people like Blinken. […] Show the corruption around Biden as you build up to the 2024 election.”
