James Comer and Chuck Grassley Desperately Grasp at Straws of Their Own Making
Washington D.C. – Today, House Oversight Chair James Comer along with Senator Chuck Grassley sent a wafer-thin open letter to subpoena the FBI for documents they allege prove President Biden is wrapped up in some nefarious scheme based solely on “unclassified whistleblower disclosures” they claim are in their possession. Desperately hoping this will serve as the smoking gun to finally kick off their Biden goose chase as it bumbles into its fifth fruitless year, Grassley sprinted to Fox News only to instantly fold under entry-level questioning to uncover exactly how he and Comer arrived at these major allegations. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“If you believe what Chuck Grassley and James Comer are peddling, I have a bridge to sell you. For years, Grassley and Comer have over-hyped and under-delivered on increasingly outlandish accusations against Joe Biden and his family. This time the press should be wiser than falling for their latest political stunt designed to smear Joe Biden with not a single piece of evidence to back it up. Once again these guys are all hat, no cattle.”
Below find examples of Grassley and Comer repeatedly trying and failing to smear Biden
Earlier this year, Comer blatantly misrepresented four individuals he claimed were “whistleblowers,” and later refused to produce any new evidence to his Democratic House Oversight Committee members.
In 2022, Grassley issued a press release alleging that the “FBI possesses significant, impactful, voluminous evidence of potential criminality in Biden family business arrangements.” Nothing came of it.
In lockstep with Grassley, Comer was called out by independent fact checkers two days later for lying to Americans about Hunter Biden. An investigative reporter wrote that Comer “needs to get his facts straight” after making numerous false and/or unsubstantiated claims about foreign business dealings.
In 2020, in the run up to the presidential election, Grassley alleged Joe Biden of corruption and launched a multi-year investigation. The result? According to The New York Times:
“An election-year investigation by Senate Republicans into corruption allegations against Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his son, Hunter, involving Ukraine found no evidence of improper influence or wrongdoing by the former vice president, closing out an inquiry its leaders had hoped would tarnish the Democratic presidential nominee.”
