Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Integrity Project released an updated report outlining James Comer’s year and a half of hyping up big claims of wrongdoing only to come up empty when finding any evidence. James Comer is all hat, no cattle. Read the full report here.

Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“James Comer has wasted an entire year promising bombshell evidence in his baseless Biden impeachment inquiry but has only been capable of delivering duds. Comer is all hat, no cattle. His witnesses have been exposed as criminal liars with ties to Russian intelligence, he hasn’t been able to call a single witness to testify who can back up the GOP’s claims, and he’s hosted embarrassing, failed hearings. Comer promises new evidence is coming but we won’t hold our breath, and the American people won’t either.”

Executive Summary

Oversight Chair James Comer (KY-01) and his MAGA colleagues have wasted nearly a year and a half pushing a baseless, partisan impeachment inquiry. Last week, Comer promised that new information would be coming “very soon.” This is just the latest instance of Comer over-promising and under-delivering.

After promising every few weeks a new bombshell, Comer’s only impeachment hearings featured a witness appearing virtually from federal prison, a Trump-aligned MAGA insider without any credibility, and multiple conservative experts who testified there’s no evidence to impeach President Biden. Dozens of other witnesses directly contradicted and outright disproven Comer’s claims.

Comer has spent over a year claiming that the Biden administration supposedly interfered in federal investigations into Hunter Biden, basing the allegations on two former IRS employees who themselves testified during an Oversight hearing that there’s no evidence President Biden or his Attorney General interfered in investigations. At least six federal criminal investigators debunked the two IRS employees’ claims as false and misleading, and three U.S. attorneys — including a Trump appointee — have further debunked Comer’s claims during testimony.

Despite obvious credibility concerns, Comer centered his entire impeachment probe around a key informant who was later charged with making false statements accusing President Biden and his son Hunter of corruption and bribery, then exposed for meeting with and being fed information by Russian intelligence, as well as former President Trump’s business associates. Comer willfully ignored investigations undertaken by the GOP-led Senate and the Trump administration DOJ, and ignored guidance from the FBI, and pressed forward with his baseless probe.

Comer has repeatedly hyped the release of new evidence, only to publish evidence-free memos widely discredited even by right-wing media. He has resorted to pushing baseless conspiracy theories, taking interviews with right-wing figures to rant about everything from emails dating back to Joe Biden’s Vice Presidency to the so-called Deep State and even the War in Ukraine, only to face the facts and quickly move on.

The reality is that Comer has not found a single shred of evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden – let alone anything that would amount to an impeachable offense. At this point, Comer hasn’t even said what impeachable offense he is accusing President Biden of committing. Over a year later, he has absolutely nothing to show for his investigation. With his latest “coming soon,” he’s set himself up for failure – all hat, no cattle.
