Washington, D.C. – Today, the Senate voted to dismiss the baseless articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Their colleagues in the House have spent the past year investigating the Secretary and have not found a single shred of evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors, yet proceeded with voting to impeach the Secretary. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“From the beginning, this impeachment has been nothing more than a political stunt and waste of time. If Members of Congress were serious about real solutions to our border crisis, they would pass the bipartisan border agreement and secure our border. Instead, MAGA House and Senate Republicans continue to reject evidence and constitutional scholars, to try to score political points.  Today’s vote is an exoneration of Secretary Mayorkas and a signal that it’s time to drop political, partisan attacks in favor of addressing the issues facing Americans across the country.”
