Congressional Integrity Project September 16 – September 27, 2024 Summary

Sep 27, 2024

This week, the Congressional Integrity Project continued to drive the narrative against the baseless, fact-free political stunts by MAGA Republicans, aimed to harm President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Governor Walz ahead of the 2024 election, while convicted felon Trump and his allies are planning Project 2025 and their future threats to democracy.

CIP has sent a letter to the Office of Congressional Ethics, requesting an investigation into Rep. D’Esposito, after the New York Times revealed that he hired both a woman with whom he was having an affair and his longtime fiancée’s daughter to work in his Congressional office, which may have transgressed House ethics rules designed to combat nepotism and corruption.

CIP sent out 7 rapid-response products, including statements, fact sheets, and roundups.

Since returning after being away from Congress for a month-plus, MAGA House Republicans have dedicated all of their time to hosting political stunt hearings rather than funding the government or making progress on the important priorities of Americans across the country like lowering costs.

With only two weeks until a possible government shutdown, House Republicans are focusing on political stunts to help Donald Trump.

MAGA Republicans hold yet another bogus hearing targeting the Biden-Harris administration, they are thrusting a spotlight on Trump’s far-right Project 2025 agenda.

James Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee hosted a hearing on the Biden-Harris administration’s so-called “policy failures.”

Newsday: D’Esposito embroiled in allegations he put ex-girlfriend on payroll. “An ethics complaint against D’Esposito was filed Tuesday with the Office of Congressional Ethics, an independent, nonpartisan group created by the House to review allegations of misconduct by its members. The complaint was filed by the Congressional Integrity Project, a political group that targets Republican lawmakers with alleged ethical violations. The group in its complaint asks the office to launch an investigation into D’Esposito, whom the group contends “violated the public trust and acted in violation of the House Rules and U.S. House Committee on Ethics guidance.” [Newsday, 9/24/2024]
